It is not hyperbole to say that "Gossip Girl" - the gleefully frothy, just-this-side-of-filthy CW soap about super-rich Manhattan teens private school kids and their moral dilemmas is more chess than checkers - so dense is it with sophisticated, ever-shifting machinations.
"The show is a chess game," says creator and exec producer Josh Schwartz, 32. "Chuck and Blair are the king and queen. Everyone else, except Serena, is a pawn."
"It's like a math equation," says co-exec producer Stephanie Savage, 39.
"Nothing," adds Schwartz, "is harder than writers doing math."
Savage points to the machinations on display in one recent episode - which, in any primetime soap that aired even two years ago, would likely have been stretched out over several episodes. Always looking for the hottest trends, celebs including Emma Roberts and Blake Lively were spotted having a marvelous time at the Juicy Couture New York City Flagship Store Grand Opening last night (November 6).
Miss Lively looked amazing as she sauntered through the crowd sporting a sexy and sleek black dress teamed with a pair of black stockings and black heels.
Meanwhile, Emma Roberts added some color to the night with a beautiful yellow v-neckline dress with black Mary Jane heels and a silver bracelet.
Other stars checking out the Fifth Avenue boutique included Abigail Breslin, Molly Sims and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, among others.
Gossip Girl Stars Hit the Cemetery

Continuing to film scenes for their recently extended 25-episode season, the stars of “Gossip Girl” were hard at work in Brooklyn on Monday morning (November 3).
Chace Crawford, Blake Lively, Penn Badgley, Leighton Meester, Taylor Momsen and Ed Westwick were all on-hand at the cemetery, walking back and forth from their trailers as they shot a funeral scene.
Meanwhile, a brand new episode of the hit CW drama airs tonight at 8/7C, eerily titled “There Might Be Blood”.
Of the episode, the CW Web site tells, “Serena (Blake Lively) invites Aaron (guest star John Patrick Amedori) to be her guest at a charity gala honoring Lily and Bart (Kelly Rutherford and guest star Robert John Burke), but after discovering a secret that Aaron has been keeping from her she begins to question whether Aaron is the guy she thought he was. Hoping it will help her chances of getting into Yale, Blair (Leighton Meester) naively agrees to babysit the 15-year-old daughter of a prominent Yale donor, but the teenager proves to be more than a handful and Blair begins to suspect that the evening may actually wind up hurting her chances of getting into the college of her dreams. Meanwhile, Jenny (Taylor Momsen) and Agnes (guest star Willa Holland) plan a guerilla fashion show that will either launch Jenny’s star or ruin her chances of ever being accepted by the industry.”

Taking care of her man on his birthday, Blake Lively was spotted treating boyfriend Penn Badgley to a brunch outing in New York City on Saturday (November 1).
Hitting the West Village, the “Gossip Girl” co-star couple rung in Penn’s 22nd at “A Salt & Battery” - which boasts itself to be New York’s only truly authentic fish and chip shop.
Meanwhile, there’s good news for the Dan Humphrey actor and his Serena van der Woodsen actress gal, as the CW keeps ordering up more and more episodes of the show.
According to Entertainment Weekly, “the network recently handed two further episodes to ‘Gossip Girl,’ but has now asked for one more installment, taking its sophomore season to 25 episodes.”

Jim Caruso's Cast Party in association with producer Andy Sandberg presented WING AT BIRDLAND, a one night only presentation of the international recording and internet sensation at New York's premier concert venue. The stars came out to cheer her on, including Gossip Girl stars Blake Lively and Penn Badgley, Michael Feinstein, Brent Barrett, actor Max Minghella and RENT stage and film star Justin Johnston. The brand new season of “Gossip Girl” keeps heating up, and earlier today Blake Lively and Penn Badgley were spotted on their way to work in Queens, New York.
Braving the cold, rainy weather, the on/off-screen lovers hid beneath an umbrella and kept bundled up with coats and scarves, stopping for a smooch along the way.
And according to Miss Lively, her adorable pooch sometimes steals the show. And she say that it’s just fine with her.
Blake told press, “Anytime anybody comes up to me, I always get a little shy. But I have my cute dog now so a lot of people come up to me and they’re like, ‘Oh, my gosh, are you . . .’ and I think they’re going to ask if I’m from Gossip Girl, and they say, ‘with that really cute dog?’ Yeah.”
As the star of Gossip Girl, Blake Lively has access to the greatest clothes.
She calls out Kate Moss and Sienna Miller as her fashion role models.
“I like to mix things that are ladylike and classy with things that have more of an edge,” the 21-year-old actress says.
She swaps jackets with co-stars Leighton Meester and Jessica Szohr.
“We’re different sizes, so it’s hard to share pants.”
What is her biggest fashion splurge so far?
“I went shopping at Jean Bautista Valley when I moved to New York because I didn’t have that many winter clothes because I was born and raised in California,” Penn Badgely’s girlfriend tells me. “So I bought way too many jackets and warm and cozy outfits. I don’t know how much it was. I got good deals though.”

And at LA’s Chateau Marmont on Oct. 26, before the FilmAid International benefit screening of All About Eve, she told Life & Style that so is the rest of her family. “We love Penn,” Robin, 36, said. “They've known each other since they were kids. My mom used to manage him years ago. We adore him.” Does Robyn see the nearly-a-year romance between Blake and Penn, both 21, turning into something permanent? "Who knows?" she said. “All I have to say is I wouldn't be upset. I do love him.”

If it’s true that blondes really do have more fun, then Blake Lively and Kate Bosworth were having a blast at the Fashion Group International’s 25th Annual Night of Stars at Cipriani Wall Street last night (October 23).
The “Blue Crush” cutie was busy hamming it up for the paparazzi in a funky, furry brown belted minidress teamed with a pair of brown uber-high heels.
Meanwhile, “Gossip Girl” gal Blake kept it simple and elegant in a conservative-yet-sexy black v-neckline dress along with a pair of classic black heels.
Speaking of Miss Lively, it seems she’s being sued in small claims court over allegations that she failed to pay a dressmaker for alteration work. Angela Bilotti says Blake owes her $500 for work on her Teen Choice Awards dress and is seeking payment.
