Sisterhood of the Traveling Gossip Girl

On Monday, July 28, the 20-year-old actress Blake Lively attended a premiere not for the upcoming season of Gossip Girl (currently filming all over town, including at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights), but for a film with a decidedly less sophisticated audience: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, the sequel to the first megahit from teen novel assembly line forewoman Ann Brashares.
Just as her co-star, America Ferrera, was hardly a household name before Ugly Betty, Ms. Lively was relatively unknown before the CW network made her famous—a fact not lost on her Sisterhood co-stars.

 Back in 2005, when the original Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants — about four high school friends who share a pair of magical jeans — was released, things looked quite different for the film's stars. Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn were on cult TV shows, America Ferrera was a respected but seldom employed actress, and Blake Lively a relative unknown who had been plucked from a casting call. The movie grossed only $39 million in theaters, but DVD sales turned this heartwarming chicklet flick into a hit, which meant a sequel was almost inevitable.
But in those interim three years, everything changed. Ferrera's and Lively's careers took off on Ugly Betty and Gossip Girl, respectively, while Bledel's and Tamblyn's shows came to an end. When it was time to reassemble the cast, some were reportedly reluctant to make the sequel. Even magical jeans can't get you out of contractual obligations, though, and all four stars ended up returning. ''Yes, there were contracts and reluctancies,'' says director Sanaa Hamri. The sexually charged ad campaign for " Gossip Girl" set to run next month has had us imagining incredibly juicy scenarios for the characters of the New York teen sizzler. Well, says star Blake Lively, we imagined correctly.
"Everyone's dating everyone, everyone's sleeping with everyone," Lively said at the press day for her film "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2." "I'm expecting the sister I don't have to be my father."

New 'Gossip Girl' ads use criticism to tout show's sexy side

 “Gossip Girl” will get people talking. At least, that seems likely as the CW network brings to a boil its new campaign for the sexy prep-school soap.
The show’s second season begins Sept. 1, following an August promotion to put viewers, um, in the mood. And here’s a twist: The racy ads co-opt language from the very criticism of the show for being too, well, racy.
Alert surfers got a preview last week, when images of coupled-up “Gossip Girl” characters found their way onto several Web sites.
Item: Here’s Serena van der Woodsen (series blonde Blake Lively) with eyes shut dreamily, mouth open, while a friend, his face buried in her tresses, nuzzles her neck.
